Buying A Fishing Pole
Buying a pole by Jeff Howard 1) Differentiate the kinds of pole to lessen your choices. REMEMBER: Plan your plans to be able to know what kind of pole is for you. If you are planning to go extreme the whole summer vacation, the type of pole and reel would vary. Basically, there are two main types of poles. The first is the spinning pole. It is a more complicated pole that has larger rings at the line. The reels and line guides are located at the underneath the seat. Triggers are not used as spinning guides. The poles length and its handle length are equally measured. The second is the bait-casting poles. It is like the spinning pole, but the rings are much smaller. The reel and line are located at the top of the pole. A trigger is used for a better grasp of the pole while letting go of the line release. 2) The kind of materials the poles is made of. This is important because your skill level in and the type of you would undergo should be considered in choosing your own pole. Graphite gives you more control on your pole. It is much lighter in weight and could handle all types of skill level in from beginner to experts. Fiberglass is sturdy and affordable. Although this kind of pole is heavy, it is mostly used by beginners. A combination of both the graphite and fiberglass is called composites. This type of pole gives you an affordable, durable with a much lighter weight and extreme power. 3) The length of the pole would determine what kind of fish you would like to catch. As it goes with the weight of the pole, the larger the fish you want to lure, the heavier the pole you should purchase. 4) The design of the pole is important because it defines what kind of casting or reeling the pole would perform. The action of the pole

is usually described at your local store as heavy, medium-heavy, light and ultra light. If you want to fish smaller fish, a pole which requires lighter action would be the right choice for a pole. Because the poles action depends on the poles style and type of material used, there are also slow action poles, medium-action poles and fast action poles available in stores. If you prefer your pole to be more accurate, slow action poles should be your choice. This kind of pole is best in close ranges. Fishing poles that are leveled as medium-actions are best for beginners because it is the easiest to use when action is considered. Fast action poles are advisable to use in breezy weather conditions because it could perform lengthy casts. These kinds of poles could be used within slightest changes in the poles angle. 5) The weight of the line should be appropriate to your poles weight. Line weights scale from 1 to 15. Lighter lines are catching smaller fish, while heavier lines are designed for heavier fishes. 6) When choosing the lure you would like to use, it is important to know this ahead of time. The kind of pole you would buy would depend on how heavy your lure would be. If you are planning to make use of heavy lure, you should purchase a heavy and long pole. Remember that is science with a heart. You should treat as a balanced system. By thinking hard on what your preference would be, the combination of your pole action, length and material of pole, your skill level, an kind of pole, you could be able to discover what type of pole is perfect for your style. Stop the Madness!!
First, they shut down the red snapper, grouper, and black seabass fisheries for an undetermined length of time. Next, the president forms a task force to oversee and protect the oceanic waters - we have yet to see the outcome of this group's recommendations - some say this could even prevent you from fishing in a pond on your own property. Either of these could curtail recreational fishing as we know it. The fishery closures are already having a huge economic impact on the fishing industry. California anglers wrestle with all the areas closed to fishing every day.

Now I read today that NOAA, in all its wisdom, wants to put loggerhead turtles on the endangered species list. Now, that may not seem to be bad - in fact, protecting an endangered animal species is what we need top do. But - is this turtle really endangered? I see at least one loggerhead on every trip I make. In fact, we often purposely look for one, because they are generally diving over live bottom, and that means fish are down there.

During the recent cold weather in Florida, hundreds of turtles were rescued and saved from death to be released back into the ocean when the water warmed. I just don't see the problem in my experience.

The report talks about Japanese nesting areas for the northern Pacific loggerhead. Ok - go after the Japanese. I wonder why we always seem to have to be the saviors of the world. It's just like the whaling industry in Japan and the blue fin tuna fishery in Japan. World stocks are depleted, but they seem to not care. So - to cure the problem, we let them fish and shut down our own fisheries.

So why is the loggerhead an issue? Well just watch. Top protect these turtles, commercial fishermen will be shut down in certain areas. Beach fronts that are nesting areas will be closed to public access. Boat traffic will be eliminated in areas where loggerheads roam - it just goes on and on. And, if you think I am making this up, just look at the manatee restrictions put in place in Florida over the past several years.

I am sure to get emails blasting me for this - PETA, et al, always watch what I write and then blast me. But - someone has to make some rational sense out of all of this.

You must realize that you have not heard from PETA and the other environmental groups for quite a while. I said years ago that they were well funded and they were taking their fight to lobbyists to quietly change fishing regulations. They have latched onto and gotten the ear of the government now and things will be changing fast over the next few years. IT IS TIME TO STOP THIS MADNESS!

If you fish - and by reading this either you do or you are one of the many tree-huggers that are trying to stop fishing altogether - you need to get hold of your congressman's and senators' ears and tell them - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
