Benefits Of Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a therapy that uses aromatic oils, which arederived from leaves, bark, roots, seeds, resins and flowers ofplants. They are blended in carrier oil (another oil used fordilution), before being used for body massages, inhalation andbaths. It refreshes and de-stresses the mind and induces a senseof well-being. Since, the smell detection center in the humanbrain is closely linked with the emotional center, aromatherapyis said to affect your moods. Various essential are used inaromatherapy to obtain various results. Some are great sleepinducers, some are great for the skin and some others are goodstress busters. Aromatherapy may be inhaled directly (orsteam inhaled), massaged into the skin or added to warm bathwater. Needless to say, natural are better than syntheticoils as it proved better therapeutic benefits. Before use, theseoils must be diluted with carrier such as almond, jojoba,sunflower or wheat germ oils. If concentrated are massageddirectly, they may play havoc on the skin. Diluted areabsorbed by the skin and enter the circulatory system, which inturn, help to relax and rejuvenate. Sandalwood oil is effectiveas massage oil. With its rich perfume, it helps soften dry andwrinkled skin, stretch marks, itchiness, eczema, sunburn andallergic condition. It also helps in anxiety, depression,headaches and blood pressure irregularities. The root oil ofcarrot mixed with carrier oil, helps clear blemishes on theskin, apart from relieving stress. Many help relax the bodyand mind. Cedar wood, Chamomile, Geranium, Jasmine, Lavender,Lemongrass, Rose, Vanilla and Ylang ylang are popular usedas stress busters. These are generally used as bath andprovide a sensual bathing experience. They can either be usedsingle or in combination. Add a few drops to your warm bathwater and feel the therapeutic effects. The perfumes in theseoils fill your senses.
Some when inhaled, soothe the respiratory system, immunesystem, stimulate memory and also help as mood enhancers.Eucalyptus oil, sandalwood oil and peppermint arebeneficial in these treatments. Some essential are sorelaxing that they help to promote sleep, such as geranium,juniper, lavender, lemongrass and ylang ylang. Most haveantiseptic and anti-bacterial properties, which helps in thetreatment of infections. such as tea tree oil, juniperberry oil and Rose Mary are used for skin and hair care.
Despite its beneficial effects, it is advisable that people withserious health problems seek professional help before usingthem. These must never be taken internally and are bestavoided when pregnant or nursing. Also, remember, more is notbetter. Use the right quantity, and use it the right way to getthe best results.
