Asparagus Juice For Cooking And Nutrition
By Kevin Pederson, Tue Jan 10th

Asparagus juice is usually taken in the quantity of asherry-glassful three times a day before meals. Asparagusextract has been used not only to remove water from the body butas a purifier of the blood, to tone up the nervous system and asa gentle laxative.

The thickness of the asparagus used has little effect upon thevalue, only upon the cost. So choose fresh looking stems thathave not dried out and gone floppy. The white, woody base of thestem helps prevent it from losing moisture. It can be stored fora few days wrapped with a damp cloth around the base and kept ina cool place.

Asparagus is a luxury vegetable that still grows wild inMediterranean countries. Old herbals called it sparrowgrass andfarmers still call the plant 'grass'. A big helping will containless than 40 calories and it is a good provider of vitamins Cand E and folic acid.

The therapeutically active substance found in the asparagus isthe alkaloid asparagines which exert a rapid effect upon thekidneys, stimulating them and coloring the urine a dark yellowwithin hours of consumption. The asparagines is much reduced inquantity during cooking, so that the use of quite a small amountof the raw juice produces a good diuretic effect.

Not only is the urine colored, the asparagus also imparts quitea strong smell to it, so do not think anything is amiss shouldthis phenomenon surprise you. The essential which giveasparagus its distinctive and pleasant flavor are very powerfulbecause they are present in such small amounts that specialanalytical methods have to be employed to detect them.

About the author:Kevin Pederson has been managing a number of natural homeremedies websites which have information on asparagus juicecan be used as laxative as well as used for bloodpurification.
